This study reveals a powerful new way to spot dangerous microvascular obstruction (MVO) after a heart attack—using artificial intelligence–enhanced ECGs instead of costly cardiac MRI. In patients with anterior STEMI treated with PCI, researchers trained an AI model to read subtle ECG signatures to identify MVO with impressive accuracy. The AI was able to uncover the top predictive features, including persistent signs of coronary occlusion and reduced post‑PCI cardiac function. By offering rapid, noninvasive, real‑time risk stratification, this AI‑driven approach has the potential to transform post‑STEMI care—pinpointing high‑risk patients who may benefit from intensified treatment, all without the need for MRI.

Late‑presentation anterior STEMI patients face high risks of heart failure and death due to large infarcts and severe microvascular injury. In this small comparative study, supersaturated oxygen (SSO₂) therapy—administered for 60 minutes after PCI—showed promising benefits for this vulnerable group. Among 19 SSO₂‑treated patients, rates of microvascular obstruction were significantly lower (75% vs 100%), ST‑segment resolution was improved, and, notably, mortality dropped to 0% compared with 23% in the control group. These findings suggest that SSO₂ can be safely delivered even beyond the traditional treatment window and may offer a powerful new therapeutic option to reduce microvascular injury and improve outcomes in late‑presenting anterior STEMI.

This study shows that the cardiac arrests of Christian Eriksen, Damar Hamlin, and Bronny James triggered dramatic global surges in Google searches for “cardiac arrest,” jumping an average of 679% in the week of each event, with Hamlin’s case soaring to 1200%. Although interest quickly faded—typically within one week—these bursts represent powerful yet brief opportunities for health professionals to share accurate, lifesaving information about CPR, AED use, and cardiac emergency response. The findings underscore a key message: moments of intense media coverage can be leveraged to educate the public, influence policy, and promote rapid action, but only if organizations respond quickly before attention declines.
