We are grateful to Kevin Doran at KSTP for highlighting the gift from Armand and Mary Brachman to accelerate medical education programs with global reach. The story shares perspective from Jonathan Urbach, MD, son of a cardiologist, who felt inspired to follow in his father’s footsteps after participating in Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation’s Clinical Research Internship Program.
The $5 million gift will establish the Armand and Mary Brachman Center for Advanced Cardiovascular Learning and Education, continuing a core commitment of the MHIF mission to share learnings from research around the world and inspire the rising generation of medical providers trained in world-class cardiovascular care.
So, it is our goal to grow more cardiologists to bring more people into our programs to increase our reach and motivate them to not only practice medicine but practice cardiology.
Kristine Fortman, PhD, CEO of MHIF.
“I want to say thank you,” said Kristine when asked what she would like to say to the Brachmans. “They are making such a difference in so many individuals’ future. Not only the students and the future doctors, but the patients that those people will impact.”
The story reaches full circle when met with Paige Carlson, an associate research coordinator at MHIF who was part of the MHIF internship program for two years and now plans on going to med school in the future.
“I think everyone can think of someone in their life that is impacted by heart disease in some way,” said Paige. “So to be able to have a positive impact on that and maybe lessen the burden on some people in the future is definitely something that’s really inspiring to me.”
