How did you hear about the MHIF internship and why did you want to participate?
I discovered the MHIF internship online when searching for summer research experiences. MHIF caught my eye as it offered countless and invaluable opportunities in the field of cardiology. Conducting clinical research with physicians at the forefront of their field, observing open heart surgery, and trips to biomedical companies are just a few that piqued my interest.
What sparked your interest in the field of research, medicine and cardiology?
Since high school, I have been interested in the intersectionality between research and the clinic. In the past, I have had experience conducting cancer research in a laboratory setting but have also always been super interested in cardiology since my introductory biology and physiology courses.
What is your desired career in medicine?
I am currently interested in surgery but am also open to many specialties.
What are you most looking forward to this summer?
I am most looking forward to working with my team and advancing my knowledge and experience in the field of cardiology. Besides research, I am also excited about observing various cardiac procedures.
What do you hope to gain from this experience?
I hope to gain the fundamental knowledge needed to conduct clinical research. Combined with my experience in laboratory research, this will propel my career in medicine, using research to improve the clinic and the clinic to improve my research.
What are your plans after the summer?
After this summer I will return to Cornell University to complete my senior year of college.
What is a fun fact about you?
I have been playing tennis since I was 3!
