How did you hear about the MHIF internship and why did you want to participate?

I heard about the MHIF internship from an intern who did the program a couple of years ago. They said that they had a great experience and encouraged me to apply! I wanted to participate in the program to gain more exposure to clinical research and have the opportunity to shadow cardiologists.

What sparked your interest in the field of research, medicine and cardiology?

My interest in research was sparked when I toured the Visible Heart Laboratory during my freshman year of college. I was fascinated by the groundbreaking research at the VHL and wanted to get involved in research. I had the privilege of conducting basic science research at the Lillehei Heart Institute, and since then, I have been interested in learning more about cardiology.

What is your desired career in medicine?

I do not have a specific specialty that I am set on yet, but I am especially interested in cardiology and neurology.

What are you most looking forward to this summer?

I am looking forward to conducting clinical research and learning more about cardiology from my research mentor. I also look forward to working with the other interns and utilizing the various shadowing opportunities.

What do you hope to gain from this experience?

I hope to better understand clinical research and the intersection between research and patient care!

What are your plans after the summer?

My plans are to complete my senior year at the University of Minnesota.

What is a fun fact about you?

I grew up in the United Kingdom for six years. Unfortunately, I no longer have a British accent.
