Dr. Maurice Enriquez-Sarano is a senior research scientist for the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation's Valve Science Center. He is a world-renowned expert in valvular heart disease and mitral regurgitation whose lifetime of accomplishments has shaped clinical practice and innovation around the world. A long-standing advocate for early intervention, he has positively impacted the lives of thousands of patients and families globally.
A native of Tunisia, Dr. Sarano holds a medical degree and completed postgraduate training at institutions including the University of Paris VI. He first came to Minnesota in 1991 to join Mayo Clinic, where he built an extraordinary legacy as a clinician, investigator and educator and mentored countless physicians over his career.
Dr. Sarano’s research interests span all types of valve disease, including diagnosis, epidemiology, imaging and outcomes. At MHIF, his work focuses on optimizing research infrastructure and tools for the entire valvular team and taking initial steps toward building a regional and international valve research consortium. His research leadership and professional mentorship are invaluable to MHIF scholars, physicians and staff.
