At the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation (MHIF), our educational mission is to provide to the next generation of physicians the clinical and analytical skills in advanced cardiovascular imaging with focus on structural interventions. This will be achieved through innovative concepts and approaches for imaging acquisition and analysis.
The Research Scholar of the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation (MHIF) - Cardiovascular Imaging Research Center (CIRC) will work and learn shoulder to shoulder with research community leaders in the area of cardiac imaging and structural interventions. The multidisciplinary research team encompassing international research scholars, research data managers, cardiologists with advanced imaging skills, interventional cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons will allow a rich environment for clinical research productivity and mutual learning.
As a Research Scholar, you will contribute to impactful clinical research under the mentorship of a Principal Investigator and in accordance with Good Clinical Practice standards. You’ll gain hands-on experience in designing and conducting clinical studies—both prospective and retrospective—while sharpening your skills in medical writing, publication, and scientific presentation. Primary Responsibilities and Expectations:
- This is not a clinical fellowship training in advanced CV imaging. There will not be direct patient contact, nor opportunity for participating in cath lab/structural heart procedures. These opportunities require US medical training and Minnesota State medical licensing, which are not requirements for this clinical research program.
- Full-time commitment of 24 months in advanced CV Imaging clinical research.
- To lead key clinical research projects from beginning to end with the minimal expectation of at least 3 peer-reviewed publications by the end of the 24 months.
- To participate in weekly scientific discussions and other investigator-initiated research initiatives being conducted by ongoing collaborative research programs.
- Support efforts to communicate activities of CIRC to include publication of results, attending and speaking engagements at professional meetings, providing website content and other forums as appropriate.
- The candidate will be mentored, and expected to help prepare and apply for external grant funding opportunities.
Qualifications:
- MD preferably with Cardiovascular training. Experience in Cardiac CT and MRI Imaging Modalities will be greatly considered.
- Comprehensive understanding of research methodology and ethics, as evidenced by personal research portfolio and letters of recommendation (at least 2)
- Experience with database construction, management and knowledge of basic statistical methods
- Experience and knowledge of imaging analytic methods and emerging approaches of quantitative cardiac imaging, preferably with experience with machine learning
- Experience with peer-reviewed publications, particularly in the field of cardiac imaging
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills and will be expected to publish in peer-reviewed journals, present results at scientific conferences
- The candidate should be able to handle multiple projects and have the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research group
Financial Support:
The Research Scholar will receive a full-time salary at the prevailing wage of $56,368/year, in addition to employee benefits including medical, dental, life, short and long term disability, HSA with employer contributions, PTO, parental leave, tuition reimbursement, paid volunteer time, and 10 paid holidays. Contract will be for 24-month period with bi-annual 360 evaluation. Extension may be possible, pending satisfactory progress and mutual interest.
MHIF will cover the cost and administration of acquiring a research visa on behalf of the Research Scholar.
Research Scholars arriving from outside the United States will also receive support for relocation services including, but not limited to, assistance to identify housing, acquire a social security number, set up bank accounts, cell phone etc.
