How did you hear about the MHIF internship and why did you want to participate?

I came across the MHIF internship while searching for opportunities to explore research in a new field. I was particularly interested in learning more about cardiology, as it has personally impacted my family and sparked my curiosity about the heart and cardiovascular health. The program stood out to me not only for its focus on clinical research, but also for its personal and immersive clinical learning experiences. I knew it would provide an invaluable hands-on environment to deepen my understanding of cardiology while contributing to meaningful, patient-centered work.

What sparked your interest in the field of research, medicine and cardiology?

I've always been interested in nutrition, and seeing the impact it can have on human health is what first opened the door to medicine for me. Exploring medical research allowed me to take that interest a step further—examining how and why different factors influence health and disease. I’m drawn to cardiology specifically because of its broad impact on individuals worldwide and the immense potential for intervention. I find it meaningful that, through both preventive and clinical care, patients can be empowered to take control of their own health.

What is your desired career in medicine?

While I don’t yet know exactly which specialty I want to pursue, I do know that I want a career in medicine centered around prevention where I can help patients feel knowledgeable, in control, and hopeful about improving their health.

What are you most looking forward to this summer?

I’m really looking forward to experiencing the bridge between clinical care and research and seeing how I can play a role in contributing to discoveries in the medical field.

What do you hope to gain from this experience?

The variety of learning opportunities in this program is incredible, and I can’t wait to take full advantage of all of them. I’m especially excited to build meaningful connections with physicians, clinicians, researchers, and fellow interns, and to learn from the vast experiences they all bring to the program.

What are your plans after the summer?

I’ll be returning to Case Western Reserve University to begin my junior year while also preparing for the MCAT. I plan to apply to medical school in the summer of 2026.

What is a fun fact about you?

I’m a state champion chef in Minnesota, and my passion for nutrition grew out of my love for cooking!
