Mohammed Abed, MD, MPH

Valve Science Center International Scholar

Dr. Mohammed Abed was born and raised in Iraq and received his MD from the University of Anbar College of Medicine in Iraq. He then trained in internal medicine and bedside ultrasound at Al Yarmuk Teaching Hospital in Baghdad, Iraq, and worked with Doctors without Borders to improve access to healthcare for displaced persons and provided care in Turkey at the Ankara Refugee Ministry. He was awarded a scholarship to attend the Foundations of Clinical Research certificate program offered in Dubai through Harvard Medical School and it was here where he discovered his passion for research.

Mohammed was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in 2021, which took him to North Dakota State University (NDSU) where he received an MPH degree in public health epidemiology. During this time, he also worked remotely as a scholar in the Cardiothoracic Imaging Division in the Radiology department at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Abed comes to us with an interest in aortic valve diseases and secondary myocardial response to them.
