Job Posting: Research Scientist

In support of the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation (MHIF) mission, the Research Scientist delivers scientific services and technical advice and content to support and advance investigator-initiated research (IIR).  The Research Scientist actively engages with investigators and research units in the furtherance of high-quality research and dissemination which results in data presentations and publications at national medical meetings and peer reviewed journals.  Provides multifaceted support to the IIR research department. Provides patient enrollment and assessments, data management, and study material preparation.   Prepares regulatory documents, and coordinates project in accordance with research standard operating procedures, federal and state regulations, and IRB requirements.  

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical and analytical support for research.
  • Contribute significantly and intellectually to grant applications: lead or assist in the development of the proposed research design and methods; assume primary responsibility for compilation of supporting literature and substantial sections of written proposals.
  • Promote and facilitate the dissemination of key learnings to the greater healthcare community via preparation and submission of manuscripts, as well as local and national presentations. Lead manuscript submission teams by providing substantive advice/guidance regarding authoring, optimal presentation of data, appropriate selection of target journals and general content oversight. Lead document timelines/resource planning within the submission team.
  • Provide all-purpose writing and editorial support for a wide range of projects consistent with organizational objectives including preparation of grant applications, peer-reviewed manuscripts, internal white papers, and external communications.
  • Facilitate collaborative relationships with investigators and researchers by providing consultation that is sensitive to varying needs, experiences, and backgrounds. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of individuals and organizations.
  • Coordinate research activities and manage projects that vary in size and scope, working independently and manage time, workload, and priorities.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master’s degree (doctorate preferred) or equivalent experience in medical discipline (physiology, pharmacology, epidemiology, biostatistics, public health or related scientific/medical discipline) with at least 3-5 years professional experience.
  • Accomplished publication record within the medical sciences.
  • Working knowledge of general statistical methods, experience in health care data analysis and reporting.
  • Well-developed computer skills, including proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and use of online medical library search engines such as PubMed, as well as use of citation management tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with others as a team, often virtually, and in support of a positive work culture.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and work independently/self-manage.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Highly developed and proven medical writing skills. Experience serving as the lead author of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience as a significant contributor to healthcare-related grant applications or research proposals, including methods/design, project timeline and implementation, data analysis and dissemination sections.
  • Well-developed computer skills including proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and use of online medical library search engines such as PubMed, as well as use of citation management tools such as RefWorks and/or EndNote.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, including experience presenting research results to medical professional and lay audiences.
  • Understanding of and commitment to multi-disciplinary and collaborative research teams.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and work under tight deadlines.


Preferred:

  • Experience in cardiovascular research.
  • Interest in fully conceptualizing and building.


Physical Demands:

Must be able to work at a computer for long periods of time.
