How did you hear about the MHIF internship and why did you want to participate?

I found out about the internship while looking online for opportunities in cardiology-related research.  I applied right away, as I was interested in the internship's focus on clinical research, which is a field that I have not had prior experience with.

What sparked your interest in the field of research, medicine and cardiology?

Growing up, I had a few formative experiences that exposed me to the consequences of heart disease and hypertension, a "silent killer". In college, I have had the opportunity to tackle these issues head on through bench-research and clinical work with underserved populations. I look forward to growing my skillset this summer as I prepare myself to enter the field of medicine.

What is your desired career in medicine?

While I am not 100% sure yet, I am certainly interested in learning more about cardiology this summer.

What are you most looking forward to this summer?

I am looking forward to exploring a new branch of research while also making memories in Minneapolis with new friends.

What do you hope to gain from this experience?

I hope to learn more about conducting clinical research and presenting conclusions in an informative manner. In addition, I look forward to learning more about the field of cardiology from the perspectives of my physician mentors.

What are your plans after the summer?

I will return to Vanderbilt for my senior year of college.

What is a fun fact about you?

I have competed in a bodybuilding show and a powerlifting meet... my next goal is a marathon!
