How did you hear about the MHIF internship and why did you want to participate?

I was hoping to find a cardiology-centered research opportunity that emphasized clinical experience, while offering a unique lens into the field of medicine. While I was looking for a pre-med centered opportunity, I came across a research article discussing the outcomes of the program for previous interns and the unique learning opportunities that the program had to offer. I knew this was a team I wanted to be a part of!

What sparked your interest in the field of research, medicine and cardiology?

Last Summer, I had the opportunity to complete a clinical research internship at Cedars-Sinai in their Postpartum Heart Health Clinic. From this opportunity, I was able to connect women’s health and the postpartum period to cardiology. I learned a lot about the gap in resources for different communities facing heart problems, building my interest in the field in hopes to one day make a change for these communities.

What is your desired career in medicine?

I am hoping to serve marginalized communities facing heart problems as a cardiologist one day.

What are you most looking forward to this summer?

I am most looking forward to working with a team of like-minded individuals, while pursuing exciting opportunities outside of research!

What do you hope to gain from this experience?

I hope to gain more insight into the cardiology sector through shadowing opportunities, outcome-centered research, and advice from experienced professionals!

What are your plans after the summer?

After Summer, I plan to study for the MCAT and start my junior year of college!

What is a fun fact about you?

I have a twin sister named Disha!
