Job Posting: Part Time Staff Accountant

In the Staff Accountant role, you’ll do more than analyze numbers—you’ll enhance accounting operations, support informed decision-making, and help drive a mission that advances knowledge, transforms care, and saves lives.

Position Summary

The Part-time Staff Accountant supports the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation (MHIF) Finance Team by managing key accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and month-end close activities. This part-time position (approximately 20 hours per week) plays an essential role in maintaining accurate and timely financial records and supporting the organization’s overall financial health. The position offers flexibility in scheduling and may have the option to work remotely, depending on business needs and performance.
 

Key Responsibilities may include: 

Accounts Payable (AP):

  • Process vendor invoices, verify accuracy, obtain approvals, and prepare payments.
  • Maintain vendor records and ensure compliance with MHIF payment policies.
  • Coordinate and complete weekly payment runs; ensure all payments are properly documented and recorded.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.


Account Receivable (AR):

  • Generate and distribute customer invoices; record payments accurately and promptly.
  • Monitor accounts receivable aging and follow up on outstanding balances.
     Collaborate with internal teams to resolve billing or payment issues. 


Month End Close:

  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments as needed.
  • Perform key account reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial data.
  • Assist in preparing month-end reporting and supporting schedules.


General Accounting Support:

  • Maintain organized and accurate accounting files and documentation.
  • Support the Finance Team during audits and reporting cycles.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives within the accounting function.

What Sets you Apart

Required 

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of accounting including AP, AR, and month-end close responsibilities
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting principles.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, or similar) and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
  • Commitment to accuracy, timelines, and confidentiality
