Karla McGraw: Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Karla McGraw doesn’t remember her sudden cardiac arrest, and she is grateful for that. She’s also grateful for researchers at the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation ® for their groundbreaking work on the Cool-It and Level One programs, which have since been replicated across Minnesota and the United States. Karla was cooled and airlifted to Abbott Northwestern Hospital, where she was able to receive the life-saving care she needed, despite the fact that she lived 60 miles away. Thanks to Cool-It and Level One, people who live outside major metro areas are able to receive the same intensive care as those who live down the street.
