Job Posting: Senior Accountant

The Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation® (MHIF) and its Finance and Accounting Team is seeking a highly collaborative and solution-oriented Senior Accountant. Job Summary:

Reporting to the CFO, the staff accountant is responsible for the daily financial transactions of the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation (MHIF) including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and month-end close.  This position, in collaboration with the Finance team, prepares some management reports, including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements. The Staff Accountant will assist on annual audits, budgets and all tax filings as required by regulatory agencies.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare and record monthly journal entries and produce management reports.
  • Participate in accounts payable by providing backup support as needed, including 1099 filing.
  • Manage daily deposit processes.
  • Perform contract review for revenue recognition purposes.  
  • Reconcile accounts and document variances for all departments.
  • Maintain Great Plains accounting system including year-end close processes.
  • Work with the Finance Director, CFO, and department leaders in preparation of budgets, contracts, grants and other program related activities.
  • Participate in annual audits and all tax filings (990) that are required by regulatory agencies.
  • Provide financial reporting for both internal and external constituents.
  • Work collaboratively with all employees as part of a positive, supportive culture.
  • Continuous improvement, special projects, other contributions  


Relationships:

This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer. The incumbent serves on the Finance and Audit Committee of the General Board and interacts regularly with the MHIF leaders and staff, Minneapolis Heart Institute (MHI) Physicians, and MHI Accounting.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting.
  • Minimum five-seven years of experience in accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel and Word.
  • Experience with accounting software.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work with others as a team and in support of a positive work culture.
     

Preferred:

  • Five-seven years of experience in non-profit accounting.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation.
  • Experience using Microsoft Dynamics and Active Reporter.

Total Rewards

The compensation range for this role takes into consideration a variety of factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; internal equity; and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are determined on the facts and circumstances of each case. The current salary range for this position is $90,000 to $115,000.

In addition to salary, MHIF also offers a comprehensive benefits package for employees working 20 hours per week or more including medical, dental, life, and short- and long-term disability insurance, employer contributions toward a health savings account (if applicable), 401(k) with employer match and contribution, paid time off, paid parental leave, tuition reimbursement, paid volunteer time, and 10 paid holidays annually.
