When Dave Lee had a myocardial infarction, he was told that his life as he knew it was over; that he was a “cardiac cripple.” Not willing to accept that fate, he sought out the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation. There, Dr. Tim Henry promised that he would do all that he could to get Dave back to his normal, active life. Dave enrolled in the OPTIMIST Program and he hasn’t looked back. “The way that I’ve been cared for, the way that I’ve been talked to and told what was going on,” he said. “I don’t feel like I’m lost. I don’t feel like someone has given up on me.” “They used to refer to patients like me as no-options patients. We’re not no-options patients anymore, now we’re OPTIMIST patients. Now we have a positive outlook on what’s happening.”
