Meet Our Donors

The Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation® is grateful for its many donors, sponsors and supporters. Without a collective effort, the research and education needed to create a world without heart and vascular disease would not happen. The following donors stories provide great examples of why individuals support our work.

Howard Anderson

Living Stress Free is Key

Howard Anderson has sewn more than 300 quilt tops for the nonprofit group “The Blanket Angels” in Buffalo Lake, MN. It’s what he has done after his heart surgery to stay relaxed and stress-free. Howard also bakes and sews for auctions at his church.

“I have had a long, hard battle, but I came to the right place—a place I call home. I was told by doctors somewhere else that I probably wouldn’t live to see age fifty. The doctors at the Minneapolis Heart Institute® didn’t give up that easily and neither did I. I am living proof to other people that you can make it, as I did, with the help of great people like Dr. Harris, Dr. Melby and outstanding nurses. Research done by the Foundation helped ensure that the doctors and nurses had the best treatments for my condition and I’m alive because of it.”

Paying it Forward
Howard included the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation as a beneficiary in his will out of gratitude to those who have saved his life and because he wants the Foundation to continue its innovative and life-saving research for others in the future.

Maureen Kucera-Walsh and Michael Walsh

Proud to Be Involved

Maureen, who serves as a Foundation board member, says, “The Foundation’s outstanding clinical research professionals have created groundbreaking treatments that demonstrably improve outcomes for cardiovascular patients here and around the country. Its education professionals also have developed remarkable programs that help people prevent and manage cardiovascular disease. The Foundation’s positive impact on heart health in Minnesota is unmatched and we want to see it grow.”

Designated Support for the Future

In addition to being strong current supporters, Maureen Kucera-Walsh and her husband Mike have included the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation® as a beneficiary of their estate plan. Maureen states, “The Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation is a gem in this community and beyond. We want to provide a current and future continuum of support to benefit people now and for generations to come.” Maureen and Mike have designated their future gift to support three foundation focus areas: Advanced Cardiology Imaging, Vascular, and Women’s Heart Health.
