Remembering long-standing MHIF partner Ruth Stricker Dayton

April 17, 2020

Long-time friend, patient and supporter Ruth Stricker Dayton passed away on Tuesday, April 14. Ruth and her husband Bruce, who died in 2015, were leading donors of the heart hospital at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and Ruth continued as an active partner of Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation® (MHIF) in health promotion and wellness.

In 2018, Dr. Robert Van Tassel announced a $1 million gift from Ruth to MHIF at the annual gala. It was an exceptionally touching and important moment.

Ruth’s philanthropic impact is felt throughout many other organizations in Minnesota and the world. Her most significant legacy is The Marsh, which she founded to help promote healing and wellness, in her own community. Since it began, The Marsh hosted many Minneapolis Heart Institute®/MHIF physician speakers in February of each year to celebrate heart month.

Ruth brought an exceptional knowledge and vision of the importance of cardiovascular health and through her generosity, helped MHIF significantly advance that work. She was a true friend and philanthropist in the best sense of the word. We will miss her leadership, her generosity, her friendship and her kind spirit.
