February is American Heart Month! At the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation® (MHIF), we’re proud to be celebrating the tremendous impact of heart and vascular research on improving and saving lives locally, nationally and globally.
Every year, from prevention to treatment, exciting breakthroughs and new discoveries stem from MHIF research. Through more than 200 clinical research studies, MHIF’s world-class research teams test new drugs, devices, and innovative medical treatments to see if and how they work. The important findings from these studies help us discover hope for new treatment options; hope for patients to feel good and live well; hope for children, siblings, parents and families; and hope for a world without heart and vascular disease. #OurHearts are healthier thanks to research.
As 2020 gets underway, we’re looking ahead to another exciting year of research — and education, too. This month, we invite you to join us at MHIF in celebrating American Heart Month and taking charge of your own heart health with these free activities:
- Feb. 1 / Garden-Fresh Heart-Healthy Eating event: Discover how the fresh foods and flavors from your own garden can be used to transform your diet in endlessly beneficial ways! From managing your cholesterol to reducing your sodium intake and inspiring an all-around heart-healthy lifestyle, plant-based foods are the first step — and they’re easy to grow.
- Feb. 20 / Our 3rdannual Valve Awareness Day event, “The Mechanics of a Healthy Heart”: Learn about the public health epidemic of heart valve disease, how heart valve disease is diagnosed, the latest in heart valve disease research and treatments, and what you can do to help.
And of course, remember to wear red on Friday, Feb. 7 for National Wear Red Day®! You’ll be helping to raise awareness and show your support for ending heart disease and stroke in women. Visit our Facebook page to send us your pictures!
